A Little Bit About Us...

Hook, Line & Sunshine Charters is the dream job for Tonya and John Abendroth. Both having worked in the medical field but there was always that love for the outdoors, fishing and enjoying the ocean and its beauty. They enjoy sharing their passion for the fishing and boating lifestyle, and making every trip a safe , fun and memorable adventure for all of their guests.
Tonya has a passion bordering on obsession for  catching big snook over 42″ and huge tarpon. She loves the thrill of the hunt when fishing from a bridge or the beach. Her patience,determination and that “never give up” attitude allowed her to build an AC company, become a medical professional and she is highly regarded, respected and sought after as a professional Nanny. Another passion of both Tonya and John is volunteering during hurricane disasters, Tonya has helped organize  Operation 300 and #25United, two disaster relief charities that have allowed Tonya to help thousands in need and create relationships with a few influential leaders.

Captain Dr John completed 13 years of college, attending Loyola, University of Florida, Life University and The College of Health Sciences, earning a Doctor of Chiropractic degree, an RN and his APRN degree. Capt John also played college lacrosse for Tulane.  His passion for the ocean started at an early age fishing with his family and learning how to rig baits and run a boat from his father and grandfather in the waters off Singer Island, Palm Beach. Earning his Captain USCG OUPV license in 2000 Capt John worked as a mate and operator on sport fishing yachts in the Stuart Florida area, fortunate to have learned under some of the most successful and famous captains in the world. He has traveled to the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and Dominican Republic. He has a fondness for catching yellowfin tuna but has caught all the pelagic species and boasts landing a 500lb blue marlin.
Finally, Tonya and John are determined to make each and every experience on the water a memorable one that families and friends will be talking about for years to come. As stewards of the sea they will pass on their knowledge and fun loving attitudes, making every trip a “custom” trip because your time is valuable and your adventure is “priceless”!!

The Boat: “Swollmomma ” is a 45′ Cabo sport fishing yacht. Highly regarded for its bulletproof construction, smooth ride and attention to detail “Swollmomma “is a battle wagon that fish fear!! She boasts a massive cockpit that allows both angler and guests to experience the action up close and personal. There is an air conditioned salon with plush seating , small kitchen bathroom with toilet and dinette to relax and still see all the action. Overhead shade provides relief from the sun while sea deck flooring makes for a soft footing avoiding back pain and muscle fatigue that allows our guests to fish and play all day “ache free”.  There’s a fly bridge that has ample seating and all the action can be experienced for a birds eye view. The bow area is custom designed and guests can lay out and work on their tan. “Swollmomma” is equipped with state of the art rods, reels and tackle to get you that catch of a lifetime. All fishing licenses, bait and equipment are included. We also filet and package your catch and can make a restaurant referral to cook your catch too!!

The Toys: what’s a day on the water without all the best toys…”Swollmomma” has two huge paddle boards, one that carries 3 people and another that carries two. Relax in a massive 12 foot circular water lounge , the entire family can enjoy floating right on the surface of the water or use it as a rest area between paddleboarding, snorkeling or swimming in the crystal clear sandbar waters. Take a trip to the sea floor looking for lobster or just check out the reef with the “third lung” which allows you to breathe under water, to depths of 30′ with 6 individual air hoses the whole family can do it!! No certification required, a brief introduction on how to use, safety and rules and regulations and your down there getting your limit of lobster!!!! When it comes to catching lobster, the 6 person Third Lung is a “game changer “!!! “Swollmomma ” knows how to snorkel the right way with only the best dive gear, not those drug store masks that leak, snorkels that fill with saltwater or fins that bite, you’ll be using the crystal clear masks that fit perfectly so you see the fish in high definition as you glide thru the gin clear water effortlessly with fins like a dolphin.  For those that just want to relax in the shallow waters or float on the surface with rafts that have built in windows so you don’t miss a second the undersea world offers if you don’t want go under.
